Are you in a mad scrabble to plan your New Years Eve in Oxford clubs this year? Well fear not, so am I. Where to go? What to wear? Who to kiss? Well, that last one is easy - my boyfriend of course! Ah, long gone are the days when I'm free and single but it doesn't mean I have to spend New Year indoors playing bored, I mean board games.
No, not when there's a host of parties for New Years Eve in Oxford clubs. At the new club Kukui they are staying open until 5am. As it's only £10 I should think a few of the Oxford students will be staying around for that one.
Another good 'un in the masses of parties for New Years Eve in Oxford clubs is being held at Lava and Ignite. I'm only interested really because they've promised they'll play some cheesy tunes, and although I like to pretend I'm high-brow I love a bit of Boney M. Plus there's rumours they'll be dancers and fire-eaters. Oh la la!
I've also heard Po Na Na is doing a Studio 54 event to give New Year 2009 a retro edge.
The Bridge isn't doing anything special but they're staying open until 3am and it's £10 if you get your tickets before Christmas, or £12 after.
If you fancy a themed New Years Eve in Oxford clubs you could always head to Baby Love. Trouble is they don't know what their theme is yet but it should be a good one as they're staying open until 5am and as usual they're keeping their tickets nice and cheap.
Ever had a New Year where everyone is enjoying the music? No, I'm not talking about Auld Lang Syne, I'm talking about the stuff they play for the rest of the night. Trying to find a club playing music that all your mates can throw shapes to (rather than just pulling face and skulking by the bar) is rather difficult. Escape have found a solution - they're shipping in six DJs from London for the night. Other 'special' events are planned for the evening but you'll have to go along to find out what exactly and at £10 a ticket before 11pm it's not exactly a massive risk. And it goes on until 5am, whether you will is another matter.
If you're worried about your taxi ride home and you live near Banbury then you'll surely be heading to The Sound Exchange. They're putting on a good show and are being very generous by offering free entry to their 70s and 80s party in Fever. They shut at 1am but before you think 'wimps' they're re-opening soon after and the party moves up to Arabesque and Miami. And then, if you're still standing, there's an after-after-party until 5.30am when everyone is invited to see in the dawn. If you've been to one of their after-parties you'll know it gets rammed, so my advice is to get there early, find a table and settle down for the night. However, you will be expected to stand up and jig about at midnight (it is New Years Eve after all) as they're having a pyrotechnic show. Oh, and if you are going to head down there best pull out your black ties and flapper dresses as the theme is gangsters and molls. If you don't live in Banbury I'd say it's worth the taxi ride, or try to find someone to stay with, because the party will be well worth it and the staff are lovely.

Strattons are hosting one of the more traditional parties for New Years Eve in Oxford clubs. Their regular DJs are going for the popular vote so, sorry drum'n'bass fans, it's going to be cheesy chart, R'n'B, party anthems and strictly nothing that's 'hard' or alternative. And another one serving up an eclectic, and dare I say, slightly more hip music policy is at the Carling Academy. They're having the mother of all parties with Trashy's Animal Magic New Years Eve. There's music from Your Song, The Disco Shed and, of course, Trashy, and if you like indie and some rude glamrock this is sure to get you beaming from ear to ear. And, to add to the fun, it's fancy-dress with the theme of urban jungle - sexy safari it is then.
