The ViewOxford Review
Lava and Ignite is a newly refurbished night club which was formally known as Park End, and boasts state of the art sound and lighting systems, breathtaking visuals and unrivalled entertainment.
The Venue
Lava and Ignite is located in Oxford City centre along Park End Street, as you queue up the two flights of stairs you can feel the energy of everyone’s excitement. As you get to the top of the stairs the staff guide you to the counter where you pay your admission into the club, which on a Friday or Saturday night is about £7.00.
Once paid and de-cloaked, newcomers to the club are faced with a decision similar to one that Alice faced in Wonderland: do you walk through the door marked with a red sign into Lava, or do you ascend the stairs marked with the purple sign to find yourself in Ignite.
The bar in Ignite is at the top of the stairs and is filled with energetic revellers drinking multi-coloured alcohol. The adjoining R&B room remains untouched since the days of Park End with a small bar and dance floor which has very limited seating, but they do have some leather corner sofas.
The biggest change to the club is the main room upstairs. Where there used to be a giant hole in the floor to view the downstairs dance floor, there is now a sparkling new dance floor and DJ booth with a selection of sofas and plastic seating around the outside.
The Lava bar is on the lower floor with the same layout: the bar is located at the back of the room with a small cluster of leather seating which you can chill out on. The DJ booth and large dance floor is located in the middle of the room and around the outside are platforms and even dance poles where on occasions professional dancers perform.
All the rooms are decorated in reds and blacks, the lighting and sound systems in each room are fantastic, with each bar boasting neon blue lighting which looks great.
The People
There is a warm and friendly atmosphere as soon as you arrive at the club from all the staff; they are willing to help you if you need a hand. They have great toilet attendants, the ladies request a small tip and in exchange you can make full use of their products like perfume’s and make-up.
The Music
The music in Ignite is commercial house, electro, R&B, indie and cheese. It all kind of depends on what night you head down to. Always best to check in advance to avoid the embarrassing prospect of being surrounded by indie kids when you’re brandishing glow sticks and ready to rave.
The Drinks
The drinks can be pretty expensive at £3.50 for a bottle of VK, but there is a great selection of flavoured VK’s and bottled beers.
The Last Word
The people that attend Lava and Ignite are out to party and fuel the evening’s festivities with more than a few shots of Sambucas. Things may get messy but that’s part of Lava & Ignite’s appeal and they know how to give the people of Oxford a good time.
