Excellent film! Loved it. Very witty, especially the banter between Holmes and Watson. Fast-paced, beautiful to look at, and I'm not sure why the other reviewers have found it such hard work. Don't expect it to be a homage to the books - it's very much its own entity, but no worse for that. I didn't know what to expect, but came out of the cinema singing its praises.

Nice to see that someone enjoyed this piece of fiction.

I went to see this film with my niece on a wet day in the Christmas holiday week and whilst it isn't a typical Sherlock Holmes film it was a good action film to take us away from the wet miserable weather outside. At the beginning R.Downey Jr's mumbling of the English language was a bit hard to follow as he's supposed to be depressed -not having many crimes to investigate, but in time his accent improved. The action was more funny than violent and the sets are mythical if you know London, just don't expect the parts you know to be in the same places! Guy Richie's cheeky chappie Londoners sprang up regularly so I think this is made for an American audience on DVD perhaps. Overall it was just another fantasy action film that kept us chuckling and filled a few hours.

Should have gone for at least three stars if it tickled your fancy. There are worst films about that warrant a "minus" category!!

Witless. A truly dreadful film. They have the rating on this film the wrong way round - anybody over the age of 12 should be prevented from seeing it...it is clearly aimed at eight-year-olds who haven't yet gravitated from comic books.

Bollocks. This is not homage to Conan Doyle - more like a dive into the ego of Guy Ritchie. If it takes off then we can say Goodbye to the brilliance of a well read mystery writer and Hello to the world of Hollywood bullshit trash just like every other 'blockbuster' to come out of the film world these days. Watson does not say 'Nut 'im' in the original stories. A big thumbs down. Boo.
