November 2009

Where

Oxford and surrounding areas

Celebrate the defeat of gunpowder, treason and plot with Oxford fireworks displays. As well as lots of traditional fireworks, there's the burning of an Ice Princess Wicker Sculpture, funfairs, and even some spooky Halloween firework displays.

31st October 2009

Trick, Treat and Treason
Some of the Oxford fireworks displays are taking inspiration from Halloween. This year the Curbridge Bonfire celebrations at Witney United Football Stadium has a few tricks and treats in store as the Guy Fawkes party takes place on Halloween. As well as the Guy judging competition, children are invited to come along in fancy dress. Gates open at 5.30pm and the bonfire will be lit at 7pm with fireworks at 7.30pm.

Faringdon House
There's more spooky goings on for the display hosted by the Faringdon and District 41 Club at Faringdon House. As well as the fantastic fireworks there's fairground rides, games and hot festive fare. Gates open at 6pm and the display starts at 7pm.

5th November 2009

Fringford Fireworks
On Fringford Village Green you can gather around a traditional family bonfire for their annual fireworks party. There's also burgers, hot dogs, soup, mulled wine and baked potatoes to chase away the winter chills and glow-in-the-dark novelties to entertain little ones. Gates open at 5.30pm and the bonfire will be lit at 6.45pm followed by the fireworks at 7pm. The display is funded entirely by donations so take along plenty of spare change to show your appreciation.

7th November 2009

Wicker Man
Remember, remember the 5th November with the spectacular burning of the Wickerman in Oxford. Fireworks displays usually have a burning of the Guy but the Oxford Round Table celebrate bonfire night by setting alight to a Wickerman in true pagan style. This year, an oversize ice princess will be devoured by the flames.

Ice Princess
In the run up to fireworks night, the Oxford Round Table held a competition for children to design this year's Wicker Man. The winning design is by seven-year-old Joshua who created a scary Ice Princess Wicker Sculpture. You can see her melt at South Parks, one of the largest of the Oxford fireworks displays.

Family Entertainment
As well as the burning of the Ice Princess Wicker Sculpture there'll be a bonfire and as well a £11,000 firework display. There's also a funfair, festive fare and live PA and entertainment from Heart FM. Gates open at 5pm at the South Parks firework display. The Wicker Sculpture will be lit at 6.30pm. Tickets cost £6, or £15 for a family ticket.

Oxford fireworks displays take place on or around 5th November 2009.
