My husband, two daughters (aged 9 and 12) and I spent two nights in Chipping Norton (end of July 2011) and ate here the first night - had a very impressive experience in terms of food and service - and as a result went back the following night for an equally enjoyable experience.
The food - we had a range of dishes between us over the two nights - was really tasty and the service was second to none, particularly from the manageress, who managed to find us a table on a very busy saturday night, and remembered us the following night and was equally friendly and helpful then.
We would strongly recommend this establishment both to foodies and for families looking for somewhere to eat out with their kids without compromising on taste, character or style. Many thanks to the staff for making our weekend in the Cotswolds so enjoyable.
My wife and I had a meal here last night. Initially we were dubious following the mixed reviews but we decided to go in and give it a go.
In contrast to one of the older reviews, we were greeted by a polite bartender and a young pleasant waitress. We were quickly taken to a table and our drink order was sorted efficiently.
My wife and I had antipasti starters, one with humous and mozzarella one with salami and other cold cuts. Both came with bread and a side salad, the portions were generous and.
For main course I had the spaghetti meatballs and my wife had the chilli. Both were massive portions, I lost count of how many meatballs were in my dish. The quality of both dishes was excellent and the service continued to be excellent throughout the meal.
We live over an hour away and I would genuinely drive back here for a meal.

I can only assume that 'Bitter and Twisted' was named after the woman mixing the cocktails (more of that later) on the night of my visit. She may have been feeling that way because she was the only person serving the very busy bar but unfortunately she lacked the professionalism to cope with good grace. This pub should stick to being a pub; the cocktail menu may be extensive and pricey but they were being thrown together with no care or finesse or modicum of pleasantness. I ordered a cocktail I have had many times before in establishments ranging from a Michelin starred restaurant, Covent Garden cocktail bar and my local pub, all to my complete satisfaction - but here it was almost unrecognisable and unpleasant - as was their attitude to customer service when I queried what had gone in it.
If you want to be a cocktail bar do it properly.
Apart from that the food and table service were adequate and the decor and physical atmosphere is nice - but best of all was the company and they can't take credit for that!
I was hungry when I first walked into Bitter and Twisted, we were abuptly addressed if we wanted a table which we did. It was a saturday and although not too busy their was a tension for all to notice.
We ate our distinctly average meals and made haste from the cringe atmosphere this bar oozes with.
Spent the afternoon on the terrace listening to live music at the Chipping Norton Festival 2010. Tried the Steak Frites at £10 a head - was excellent! The meat was top quality, well cooked an all was piping hot.
Karen from Whitton (but would like to move back to Chippy....)
Having recently visited the area we stopped off for an evening meal at Bitter and Twisted.
After our failed attempt to eat at the Blue Boar pub down the road this place couldn't have been more different.
We were greeted as soon as we walked in and made to feel welcome. Service and Food were excellent, well done and thank you to all staff working Sun 28th June around 7.30.

During a recent overnight stay in Chipping Norton we visited Bitter and Twisted for an evening meal and a few drinks.
We found the staff both efficient and attentive, food was well presented and delicious.
Erring on the slightly expensive side but well worth it for a treat!
I like this pub and think the name is wicked, nothing like the actual pub though thank god!!
