Me and a group of friends just came back from a horrid meal at the Grapes. We were very disappointed even though the atmosphere and the place was lovely. All of us either ordered Chicken Supreme Burger minced together with chorizo (£7.95) or Classic Beef Burger Tooped with drunken goat cheese(£8.50). I ordered the chicken burger which looked nothing like chicken it was basically a giant bad quality chicken nugget with red specks dotted around the burger. By the time we ordered and got our food was around 9 pm we were starving so we ate most of our food but the ones that ordered beef burger wern't impressed at all and did not finish their food. The beef burgers were pale in colours looked more like chicken or pork and it tasted nothing like classic beef burger as it said on the menu. I had a bite becuase I couldn't quite believe how a chef could get it so wrong for a 'Classic Beef Burger'. We made a complaint and the manager was happily giving us refunds back for the beef burgers but we weren't satisfied and would like to speak to the chef (relieved and happy to report the the kitchen was reasonably clean!) A very young chef explained that she only put beef, eggs and goat cheese in a food processor and blended it all together into a gunk and form it into a burger shape. She did the same with the chicken burger too. She said she did try mince the meat manually and it would not hold its shape when frying! Having just cooked some meat balls from scratch that night for my hubby our my 3 year old boy I thought that was absolutely full of baloney! 15 minutes later the manager came to our table and he said he asked the chef again what did she put in the burger she confessed that she only had a small amount of beef left so she mixed it with the chicken mixture to strecth the quntity enough for 3 people!! He appologised to my friends but I thought well if she put chicken in the beef burger, what did she put in the chicken burger?!?!4 stars for atmosphere
