A pleasant pub on the Woodstock road, spacious enough for big groups, and it has a great musical heritage with the likes of Radiohead and Supergrass gracing its stage.

The Venue
Located on the Woodstock Road near the Phoenix cinema, the Jericho Tavern offers thick wooden tables and a layout much more spaced out than many in Oxford. It's dark inside, but the bar is right in front as you enter.

Long seats at the back provide comfort, and there are a variety of tables with wooden chairs and armchairs scattered around the pub, but leaving enough room to comfortable get around, a very welcome feature.

The People
A lot of students come here, and the bar is also busy before and after screenings at the cinema, with people popping in for a pre-movie drink. The bar is a good choice for such a drink, and it's always lively, and full of mainly young people and students.

The fact that there's a lot of room makes it a favourite with large groups. One of the Jericho Tavern's strongest points though, is the live music, showcasing local bands in their many gigs. Notable appearances include Radiohead and Supergrass, both of whom played here in their formative years.

Posters within advertise the variety of musical talent playing at the Jericho Tavern, and the bands are, on the whole, worth seeing. They play a variety of indie/funk/rock music, and ticket prices vary according to the show. Live entertainment is found upstairs every night.

The Food and Drink
Food is not what you come to the Jericho Tavern for as there are many better eateries in the immediate vicinity. If you must eat however, they do a very decent lunch, particularly on Sundays. A burger and chips is £6.90, and prices rise from there. Sunday roast is £8.90.

There is a wide selection of drinks available, including Fruli, a great strawberry beer for £3.90, or Hoegaarden for £3.80. Going beyond the usual lager choices is a major asset, and the drinks selection and pricing isn't bad.

Wine night on Tuesdays is good fun, and the drinks are all good quality, and add to the relaxed fun atmosphere of the place.

The Last Word
As a music venue alone the Jericho Tavern is worth a visit, and it just happens to be a rather good pub as well.
