First of all the location of the hotel is awfull. Is very far from everything specialy if you are traveling without a car. Secondly, the only bus service available stops at the middle of the road! In the night there are no light and you have to walk in the dark and in the road, since there are no sidewalks. Yet, it is worth to remember that during the winter is even worse, because its snows (so sometimes there are no buses) and the sunset is very soon, at 3pm. What makes it impossible to go back while there are still sun light. Also, the rooms are close to the road, so is noisy. The room is clean, but there were some insects inside. The tv only has 2 channels. There is no control of who gets in and out of the hotel. Because of that, sometimes the housekeeping didn't clean my room. Also because of that, anyone who is passing by the road can enter in the place; everything is open. Therefore, I felt very unsafe. And to top it off, I was treated very badly by the hotel manager, he was completely impolite and tried to humiliate me in front of all people who were in the hotel reception at the time, when I was trying to cancel my stay at the place.

I have been to the Lambert Arms bar/restaurant a couple of times before. Whilst the food has always been ok (although prices have shot up and are now at crazy levels for 40 miles outside London), the service has never been particularly fast. On our most recent visit, after about 25 minutes of waiting, I asked our waitress if our food was on its way and she said 'umm, yes'. Nothing happened. After waiting a further 10 minutes, we enquired again. A man was called out from the restaurant - I don't know who he was, as he wasn't introduced to us - and when we explained that we had been waiting over 30 minutes for our food he argued that 30 minutes wasn't a long time to wait for fresh food. He said that people on cruise ships often wait 30 minutes for their meals. Huh? Didn't get that bit at all. Although he did agree with me that someone should have at least come out to explain that there were 30 other people being fed elsewhere in the restaurant (out of view from us) and that a looooong wait was anticipated. The food itself was fine - my friends and I enjoyed our meals - although my butternut squash in filo pastry was supposed to arrive on a bed of spinach and there was no spinach to be seen. I couldn't face saying anything to the staff about it and, anyway, the staff were nowhere to be seen. Prices of main meals are between £12 something to £20 - really, really not worth it. No eye contact from the staff on our way out -- (did we do something wrong in politely enquiring (twice) about the whereabouts of our food?) All in all, not a great experience with dire customer service. A great shame as the location is gorgeous. You could go to a really top notch restaurant in London/oxford for that price and be looked after by friendly, helpful staff.
