A modern little locals’ bar on the Cowley Road, Corridor is nothing to shout about.

The Venue
So-called presumably because it’s relatively long and narrow (although in truth there are much narrower), Corridor is an independently owned bar housed in a big stone building on the corner of Cowley Road. The bar is at the front and is illuminated by the yellow and red coloured lights over it.

There’s a raised section towards the back too with off white walls and built-in, ochre coloured bench seating. The back part is carpeted and there are semi-abstract pictures on the walls as well as different coloured square and round ottomans. There’s seating on a narrow terrace running the length of the building, which is always full up in the summer. They have a DJ night on Saturday and there are two screens behind the bar cleverly tuned to different channels.

The People
As well as its good lunchtime trade, Corridor is mainly frequented by local people, although it does attract a few students from Brookes on a Wednesday night. There's no 'crowd' as such, just drinkers who couldn't think of anywhere else to go and the Corridor lacks a Unique Selling Point and it shows.

The Food and Drink
You can get Stella, Guinness, Carlsberg and Strongbow on draught and Corona, Magner’s, Beck’s, Staropramen, Budweiser, Weston’s and Oxford Ale (by Bicester Beers) in bottles. A bottle of wine will cost you £10.30 — or £2.70 for a small glass. They do food in the form of small packets of peanuts (“which is what we get paid” quips the barman).

The Last Word
Corridor is a very modest little bar and, to paraphrase Winston Churchill, it has much to be modest about.
