With its strong range of beers, friendly welcome and multiple board games there’s enough here to keep any punter happy.
The Venue
Built in 1932 this pub has gone through a number of changes over the years and was once Oxford’s biggest punk pub hosting gigs by the likes of Generation X and the slightly more obscure Dogbreath Brothers. There are a dozen or so benches outside on the railed off brick patio area, which is bedecked with flowers and plants.
Inside it’s pretty spacious and open plan with traditional pub wooden tables, chairs and stools and a red patterned carpeted area. The long all wood bar is to your left and there’s a dartboard round the back. Oh, and they have a record 35 board games here too. The walls are cream, there are shutters on the windows and candles and plants on the mantelpiece above the fireplace. There’s another split-level patio at the back with a dozen or so tables and chairs. It’s partially covered from the elements by a ‘jumbrella’ and there’s a pay-and-display car park too (useful for the appointed driver).
The People
It’s a typical Oxford mix of students and locals who gather here plus real ale drinkers.
The Food and Drink
It’s a Young’s pub so they have Young’s Special on draught alongside Kronenbourg, Foster’s, Courage Directors, Addlestone’s and Guinness and alternating ales such as Deuchar’s IPA. Plus it’s the only place in Oxford (for now anyway) to have Pimms on draught (£13 for a two pint jug). In bottles there’s an excellent range which includes Corona, Bulmers, Waggledance, Bombadier, Special London Ale, Beck’s, Double Chocolate Stout, Banana Bread Beer, Satanic Mills and Kew Gold.
They have six white, four red wines and two roses, between £13 and £14 a bottle. For the food there are jacket potatoes and sandwiches (a club sandwich is £4.95), plus more substantial grub like sausage and mash, beef and ale pie (£7.95) and a Sunday roast for £8.50.

A friendly place with a great range of beers…plus Pimms on tap. How cool is that?
