Clearly other reviews of this place are fake as I came here on a hen do to try another place in oxford and we all seriously regretted it. We booked a VIP table, expecting good service, and it was terrible. I don’t think the waitress even spoke to us other than to say what we wanted. Not even a smile. Once we had our bottle and paid we didn’t see her again. Staff were generally rude apart from the cloakroom girl who was very friendly. Bar staff looked miserable and the drinks were poor, I even had to give one back as the glass was so dirty. Music was too loud and too heavy on the house, not a good mix for a Saturday night. Sorry guys but I was expecting a lot better.

I went to camera last night and I cannot believe how inaccurate the review by Lisa ellwood is. I feel so strongly about it, in fact I am going to the bother of writing a review myself.

Terrible, terrible drinks. I had a couple of g&t's, the staff member I ordered from did not know what tanqueray gin is, even though it was on the shelf. Very badly made and warm with no lemon or lime. My friends had equally poor drinks and getting served by the bar staff was difficult.

Awful music played far too loudly. Toilets are a dump also. I was also threatened by an eastern European who was so drunk he could barely stand up. I did not feel so bad though because he went around the whole place doing it to other people too. Another guest told one of the doorman who did absolutely nothing about it. Was this guy the owner or some gangster that 'runs the door'?

There was no restaurant in there either. If anyone visited this place expecting something great they may actually wonder the credibility of this review site.

My advice is; don't go there unless you are underage, foreign, can't afford to go anywhere better that CAN make proper drinks or looking for a fight.it is arguably the worst bar in Oxford. That is my opinion.

I finally ventured to Camera last night having wanted to go for quite some time. I entered into the exceptionally stylishly, even some might say beautifully designed bar with a little trepidation knowing that often these places are style over substance. I am really happy to say that it was an absolute breath of fresh air. The staff, whilst plentiful were incredibly friendly, professional and well turned out. The cocktail list was small but perfectly good and very reasonably priced. I had a well made Bramble and then moved onto their excellent backbar having a very well made Mount Gay Extra Old and ginger ale. So far so good. It was in my opinion though that the food was the star player. The three of us started with 4 tapas starter dishes. Duck rolls, steamed dumplings, satay chicken skewers and deep fried breaded prawns all of which were quite simply delicious and more than stood up, even possibly surpassed the best Thai restaurants in Oxford. So impressed were we that we straight away ordered Teriyaki Beef, more prawns, more dumplings, green curry and jasmine rice and the Gyoya(spelling?) pan fried dumplings. Once again, every dish was beautifully presented, cooked to perfection and delicious. The curry was full of flavour, texture and heat but not overwhelming and the beef was a damn near masterpiece. On our table we joked about how fussy we can be having worked for many years in the industry both in Oxford and London but could just not find fault with the food. When the bill arrived, it was an incredibly reasonable £70! The only puzzling thing to us was the lack of customers. I understand slow starting bars and restaurants to get it right but Camera seems to have it all and it is a shame that so few people seem to know about it. I wish the owners, managers, chefs and staff of Camera all of the luck as they have done something really special with that place. Looking forward to my next visit. T

Had a great evening out in Camera. We went with a group of 5 and had dinner in the restaurant. The food was really interesting and tasty – the Camera spaghetti with seafood is delicious, and they also do vegetarian versions of it which is just as good. The restaurant is perfect for groups as all the food can be shared. We had sushi for starters which was high quality and freshly made. The ambience in the restaurant is relaxed but the décor is very, very cool and stylish, quite minimal but with an asian theme.

The staff were very friendly and the service was perfect. The best thing is that you can then move to the bar which is done out beautifully and perfect for socializing and people watching. We spent the rest of the evening drinking delicious cocktails in the bar area and just had a great time. All in all, Camera is a fab venue – really plush and special, but actually very reasonably priced. Will def go again.

Great place, great staff. Food is good and the drinks are real tasty. Loads of space so you don't feel like you're getting squeezed against the wall. This is a great place to start if you're planning a night out on the town or are just looking for a relaxed drink after work.

Was in last night (Saturday) and had an absolutely amazing time. The place has a real zen-feel about it, what with the new age music, buddhas and soft-spoken staff. The service was efficient and so friendly and the drinks were yummy and well priced (although it does take a while for them to be made!). Our food did come out a bit slow but the very polite manager did come over and explain that some technical issues meant food was coming out slower that night. When we did get our food it was delicious and I must say that the it was different to most other places I've been (in a good way!). Oh, and the ladies toilets are real fun! All in all, a very positive experience, rated and recommended.

A genuine, grade-A stunner of a venue. All the best aspects of a good bar - style, originality, bubbling atmosphere, killer cocktails and music that hits the spot. If this were in London, the staff would make you beg for service, and you'd need a second mortgage to make the most of the cocktail list - not so here, very reasonably priced and the bar staff are just so friendly. It's spacious and airy so you're not crammed in like cattle, and plenty of swish seating on which to perch and people-watch. The food is tasty and authentic too. It's a gem!

Had the most amazing food when I went to Camera (really good thai green curry and these wonderful little duck pancakes) as well as really excellent cocktails. Could not fault it - great service (and for some reason not expensive). Would definitely go again and would recommend to anyone wanting something fresh and stylish in Oxford

Quite possibly the worst bar service in Oxford. Staff are rude and snobbish, cocktails take a minimum of 15 minutes to be made and they're not as nice or as big a range as at other bars like the living room or raouls.

Will definately not return, this place is only suited to poncey - up themselves Oxford students who have too much allowance from Daddy

Not wanting to question your experience, but mine was totally different. All the staff that we encountered were real friendly and we actually didn't see any silly student behaviour at the bar or in the restaurant. Maybe try going down on the weekend?

We came past Camera yesterday and thought we'd check out this new place. Unfortunately there was a private Xmas do on and the doormen informed us we would be welcome from 930.

We did return later in the evening and I am glad that we did. The place itself looks great and there was comfortable and ample seating for my friends. I wouldn't say it was hugely busy, but there was a nice buzz about the people who were there. I couldn't believe that I was in a bar in Oxford where I wasn't being trampled on by students!

Getting served at the bar was a pleasant enough experience although it did take a while for some of the cocktails to be made - but our bartender asked us to have a seat and he'd send the rest of the drinks over to our table (what a breath of fresh air!). The drinks were worth the wait.

I'm pretty sure that me and my friends will be starting many of our future nights out here if they can maintain the ever-so-friendly service and more importantly, less student-centric atmosphere!

I couldn't disagree more to this review. The customer service I expericenced on Monday night was shockingly poor. We were the only table in the bar but were completely ignored by the staff working. Served by an extremely rude and snobbish cocktail waitress, waited what felt like an eternity for our drinks to be made then had to sit and watch them melt on their service bar whilst the cocktail waitress finished chatting up one of the managers to bring the over to us.
Never again.
Would not recommend unless you were under 21, a pimp or a foll with more money than sense.
