I went there a few weeks ago with a walking group for an after-walk drink it was early evening and the restaurant was still empty but we didn't feel terribly welcome. That should have been enough but by chance my wife and I finished a walk nearby on a Saturday afternoon and it was the only place open, I ordered drinks and got the same feeling of disdain. Last time for me.

Wow!
Not many times you'll here that from me. Lunch today (wednesday) fantastic. Thank you Sarah for looking after us (we were the couple sat by the window behind the fireplace!)
Fish and chips were lovely but we were so well looked after I had to write and let everyone know.
Lunch for two and a fresh coffee each with change from £20.00

Well done The Merry Miller!
Eaten here regularly for the past 5 years but this is the first time
I have written a review. Had a lovely meal on Tuesday night.
Service was excellent as usual, generous main course portions
and the desserts were to die for.
Will be back again very soon

Second visit this week. Came for lunch on Sunday and cannot recommend the carvery highly enough. Best in the area by far. Stayed until 3pm to enjoy a pudding as well!
Lunch today was a much quicker affair. Good service, piping hot food and sat on the patio in glorious sunshine. Recommended.

We visited on15th February 2011 for my son's 40th birthday. What a disappointment. We should have been put on our guard by all the rubbish piled up at the back of the restaurant and the lack of cleanliness of the table. We had Boar Pate not the best but ok. My Crab starter (made with brown crab meat when I was expecting white) was awful, the accompanying Smoked Salmon was past its best if not its sell by date, being all dried up at the edges. Our main courses were no better. The Chicken Caesar Salad had large pieces of chicken (you expect ribbons) and no Parmesan, The batter on both the Scampi and my Haddock was dark brown (over cooked) and tasted bitter as if the fish had been cooked in very old oil, I returned the Haddock as overcooked when the waitress returned with the replacement it was a little better but not much, she explained that the batter was a dark colour because it had been cooked in new oil, my son who is a chief said no-way the fish had been cooked in very old oil. When the bill arrived they had deducted the price of the Haddock (£7.95) and I left no service charge. Overall food very poor and expensive. Very poor value for money.

Lunch today was great. Nice friendly staff behind the bar, tasty burgers and a good pint of ale. Not sure where the previous two reviews went to but I found the pub lovely

Do yourself, your wallet and your stomach a favor and go someplace else. So much for the great English pub, so thinks this grievously disappointed Yank. The interior was cold, and so was the head honcho behind the bar. Not a hint of the warmth you'd expect to be extended to customers. The food was kind of tasteless. When we arrived I was surprised to see just a very small bunch of people inside, when I left I realised why.

Very disappointing, the staff lack charm and professionalism. The relatively high priced food did not live up to what I was told to expect and the quality of the meat was poor. All in all a very underwhelming experience.
