An evening spoilt by confusion and rude service. Chef was very friendly and helpful, but unfortunately waitress attending to our table was especially rude and unpleasant. Carvery food was OK, but vegetable selection was rather limited (peas, carrots and cabbage only!). Most disappointing of all was that we ordered a 2 course meal but paid for three courses, because we thought the hors d'oeuvres buffet was a salad bar... Nothing was explained to us!

Children's desert was limited to icecream or fruit salad, but a scoop of icecream WITH the fruit salad was apparently going too far.

Won't bother returning.

We have been many times to the Windmill and have always found the staff to be very friendly. The food is excellent, a good roast dinner with a nice choice of meats. The sweet trolley has to be the best ever and they will even provide custard if you ask. Thanks to Carol and her staff.

Never again!! Rude, patronising and unhelpful staff!! From the initial telephone booking to the dining experience. They didn't make you feel welcome at all. Roast dinner was ok but Toby Cavery is better. Although it has a good view hence the one star.

Dont agree with previously review. Our family went to The Windmill on sunday 31st july for my dads 80th. There a very good selection of starters, the meat was beautifully cooked and the dessert were lovely. I found the staff very helpful especially as i needed help with getting my dads carvery. A lovely lunch and setting for my dads birthday. Would very much recommend to all my friends and family.

Poor. On arrival were ignored, no-one came to take drinks order or explain how they operated. Meat selection was overdone beef, anemic turkey or gammon, so I plumped for the latter. It was tasteless. Veg was hideous, overcooked cabbage, mashed carrots, and parsnips with some sort of skin on. No proper carrots, no brocolli, no leek, no cauliflower, no choice! The mange-tout were nice and crispy but would go better in a stir-fry not with a roast. Stuffing was incredibly dry and tasted like it came out of a Paxo packet.
Afterwards they wheeled around a dessert trolley which made our daughter very excited as it did look nice. We were then told she could only have ice-cream as she was a child. This inevitably caused tears so we paid extra for her to have an adult pudding, which turned out to be a packet meringue with squirty cream and 5 raspeberries plonked on top. We won't be returning, there is much better available for less money in the area.
